Varadvinayak temple is located at Mahad. It is situated near to Pune City about 85 KMs. It is one of Ashtavinayak of Maharashtra. Varad vinayak temple is built in 17th century.
It was said that Prince Rukmangad was cursed by Mukunda and he died. Lord Indra and Mukunda's son Grutsamad when came real story then he cursed Mukunda. In turn Mukunda cursed Grutsamad to have demon child, that child was Tripurasur. Grutsamad worshipped lord Ganesha and that place lord Ganesha resides in the form of Varada Vinayaka. Grutsamad is popular for the mantra "GaNanaN Tva".The temple faces East. Here devotees are allowed to individually pay their worship and respects to the idol directly.

Khopoli/Karjat Railway Station on cental railway line is the nearest railway station for Varad Vinayak Temple at Mahad . All experss trains stops at karjat station.Took local train from karjat for khopoli. Lonavala is on the main railway line between Mumbai and Pune. All express trains plying between the two cities stop here. There is also an hourly shuttle service for Pune
By Road :
Shri Varad Vinayak Temple at Mahad is 63 km from Mumbai,85 km from pune, 25 km from Karjat,21 km from lonavala and 6 km from Khopoli. The temple is 1.5 kms off the Mumbai - Pune old Highway. Mahad Bus Station, operated by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), connects the place with other major towns such as Khopoli, Mahabaleshwar, Karjat, Alibag, and Shivthar Ghal. Mahad can also be reached via Mumbai – Panvel - Khopoli road. NMMT also starts bus service from Vashi/koparkhairane (Bus No: 58)to khopoli which halts at Mahad Phata.
